The Tenth Edition of collector Adam Warshaw’s encyclopedic reference guide to boxing cards has been released.
America’s Great Boxing Cards offers insight into dozens of trading cards focused on boxing, including checklists. The new edition is the biggest yet–376 pages in paperback format.
Since the last edition was published nearly three years ago, several new discoveries have been made, especially in 19th century trading cards and those are covered in the new edition. Among those discoveries: two previously unknown N174 Old Judge cards including Boxing Hall of Famer Jake Kilrain, something Warshaw says “is hard to believe with a set that is nearly 135 years old, but that’s the fun of it.”
An attorney by trade, Warshaw runs a website for boxing cards and sells vintage cards on eBay under name exhibitman. He says the new edition of the book has added material in the Latin American, Postcard and Premiums sections and an expanded Ephemera section.
The book discusses auction and sales results but isn’t a price guide, by nature. Warshaw does offer some insight into the market, however.
“The boxing card market bottomed out in the fall of 2010,” he writes in the Introduction. “It continues to rebound. Some card issues have been strong. Some not so much. I think the market is definitely stronger than at any time since 2010.”
The book is priced at $39.95 through Lulu.com.
