Wise Gets Autograph Gig
DeWayne Wise will forever be known as the man who saved Mark Buehrle’s perfect game. Now he’s getting the chance to cash in.
Dewayne Wise, the White Sox outfielder who leaped above the wall at U.S. Cellular Field to save a ninth-inning home run and preserve Mark Buehrle’s perfect game last month, is being booked for autograph signings, including one in a Chicago suburb Thursday night.
Wise will appear alongside former Cubs’ great Ron Santo at Field of Dreams at Woodfield Shopping Center as soon after the team’s afternoon game against the Los Angeles Angels.
Store manager Matt Hanlon told the Arlington Daily-Herald that his store hasn’t had a White Sox player guest "in a long time because, as you can imagine, the Cubs are an easier sell."
In fact, despite Wise’s sudden hero status, Santo is a hotter ticket. Santo will sign at the same store from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and has had more pre-sales than Wise– even though Santo commands a higher price for his signature.
Tickets for Wise’s signing are $24.99 each. Santo tickets are $39.99 for an autographed photo or baseball and $49.99 for a jersey, bat or other equipment.
Hanlon told the paper that Wise ticket sales could impact whether the store brings more southside players into the shop.
