We’re not sure what it is about sports cards, sports memorabilia and crooks in Wichita, KS, but there seems to be no shortage of stuff stolen.
Back in 2009, there was the burglary at Players Sports Bar in which a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle, Babe Ruth signed baseball and other memorabilia was taken. Someone was eventually arrested.
Last month, an extensive collection of Ken Griffey Jr. cards was taken from a collector’s home.
Last week, Oliver’s Sports Cards and Memorabilia, a local shop, had items stolen for the fifth time in three years. This time, though, the cops may be getting some help. Owner Vince Oliver’s security system was operating just before midnight last Sunday when the thief broke in.
He started to wander around, then the alarm went off and he scrambled out of the shop–but the suspect wasn’t deterred. He came back before finally departing with some cards and Oliver’s laptop computer which had some irreplaceable images on it.
You can watch the suspect in action below.
KAKE-TV in Wichita talked with Oliver about the latest theft, which has him paying to replace merchandise–and a broken front door.
