For the second time in six months, Upper Deck Company has laid off a number of employees.
Upper Deck is getting leaner.
The company confirmed to the San Diego Business Journal that 60 employees received layoff notices recently. 40 of the workers were located in the company's Carlsbad, CA offices while another 20 were dropped at the Las Vegas office.
It's the second time in recent months that Upper Deck has made such a move. In May of this year, it laid off about 50 workers. Upper Deck had 400 employees in 2007 according to Hoover's.com.
While the company is best noted for sports cards and signed memorabilia, it also produces trading card games, a niche that has proven to be somewhat volatile and very competitive.
