Johnny U may have left the building but one of his last Baltimore Colts jerseys is still here--and on its way to a new owner.
An autographed, game-worn Johnny Unitas jersey from the 1970 season, sold for $53,590 in American Memorabilia's September auction which closed late last week.
The signed, white Baltimore Colts jersey had been authenticated by PSA/DNA and came with a letter from a relative of the original owner who had been presented with it as a gift. Complete with bloodstain, the jersey drew nine bids and the final realized price actually exceeded $64,000 after a 19.5% buyer's premium was tacked on by the auction house.
A Babe Ruth autographed "Home Run Special" baseball, complete with the original box, and graded 8.5 by PSA/DNA, sold for $40,199 while a high grade, signed Thurman Munson baseball brought $20,663.
