Thrill of Hunt Keeps Canadian Dealer on Road

For one sports memorabilia dealer, buying trips mean you never know what’s out there.

Gone are the days when boxes of vintage sports cards would walk into a hotel room where dealers were set up, cash in hand.

Like today’s gold buyers, who seem to have sprouted on every corner, sports memorabilia specialists had a field day when none of it was worth all that much and eBay wasn’t even a gleam in someone’s eye.

That was 25-35 years ago.

The opportunities to find undiscovered treasure haven’t completely dried up, though. For Sylvin Martineau of Capital City Sports Cards in Quebec City, getting out into the provinces and finding items to re-sell is a big part of doing business.

Many times, he walks out with little or nothing, but you never know what the next stop might bring.
