Jim Thome lucked out when the fan who caught his 500th home run ball wasn't interested in cashing in. His plan to get the ball to Cooperstown hasn't gotten off the drawing board.
He probably won't reach 700. 600 might even be a stretch. White Sox slugger Jim Thome was just glad to reach one baseball milestone.
His 500th home run touched off a big celebration at Comiskey Park and the man who snared the ball was an out-of-state fan willing to just hand it over. A relieved and excited Thome said he and his father were going to make a special trip during the off-season to present the ball to the Baseball Hall of Fame.
That hasn't happened yet, but Thome says he's still planning to make the drop-off before this year is out.
