In what could be a baseball first, Chicago White Sox slugger Jim Thome--now one home run away from his 500th--will announce a "prize package" he'll offer the fan who returns it.
Sometime before batting practice tonight, popular Chicago White Sox 1st baseman Jim Thome will gather the media together and announce what he's willing to give up to get his 500th home run ball back.
Thome hit #499 on Wednesday afternoon and he's had good luck retrieving the baseballs leading to #500 by offering autographs and memorabilia to fans who catch them.
Now, the stakes are higher. #500 could fetch decent dollars through a sports memorabilia auction company or on eBay. Thome is hoping his sincere desire to get the ball back and personally deliver it to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown will convince any fan who snares the ball to agree to a deal. Sox fans seem agreeable.
