Some thieves decided a Stanley Cup ring and some game worn jerseys from a retired NHL star were worth the risk.
Collectors, dealers and auction houses should be aware of some nice pieces of hockey memorabilia that are missing from the home of retired NHL veteran Sergio Momesso.
Momesso’s house in Kirkland, Quebec was robbed Saturday night with thieves getting away with three of Momesso’s NHL game-worn jerseys as well as a Stanley Cup ring from the Montreal Canadiens’ 1986 cup win.
Momesso played left wing for five teams during a 13-year NHL career and finished his career playing in Europe in 2000.
The stolen jerseys include a red Montreal Canadiens jersey (#36), a black Vancouver Canucks sweater (#27) and a white St. Louis Blues #27 jersey autographed by one-time teammate Brett Hull.
Montreal police Const. Jean-Pierre Levis said Wednesday that thieves apparently knew what they were after since nothing else appears to have been taken from Momesso’s home.
Momesso is now the owner of a popular Montreal restaurant. He was originally drafted by the Canadiens in the second round of the 1983 NHL entry draft.
