The Most Expensive 1960 Topps Set in the World

A 1960s set selling for six figures? Only if it’s the best there is.

A 1960 Topps set, fully graded by PSA and ranked number one on the company’s Set Registry, has sold via a catalog auction for $108,356.

The set was offered by Andy Madec Sportscards, which sold it on consignment. With the buyer’s premium, the actual selling price topped out at a whopping $124, 609.

The set was legendary among graded card collectors. Awarded the 2007 Set of the Year as well as Best Vintage Baseball Set of the Decade in 2006, the listing indicated the set "represents six years of searching and aggressively appropriating the highest possible 1960 Topps cards available."

426 cards were graded PSA 9 with 17 PSA 10s included. The set’s overall rating was 8.78 on PSA’s 1-10 grading scale.

Among the other vintage graded cards in the auction were:

  • 1962 Topps Sandy Koufax PSA 9 $25,750
  • 1915 Sporting News Joe Jackson PSA 6 $11,210
  • 1959 Fleer Ted Williams set graded with 3 PSA 10s $10,046
