Attention was focused on hobby shops this weekend with National Baseball Card day bringing in some new customers–and a little media attention.
It won’t solve all of the industry’s problems, but shops giving away free packs of baseball cards can’t hurt.
Stores across the country participated in the event, which is meant to drive traffic to shops and hook more fans on collecting. The packs were developed specifically for National Baseball Card Day and featured Alex Rodriguez, David Ortiz, Derek Jeter, Ken Griffey Jr., Albert Pujols and David Wright among others.
The special program also generates a little media coverage which is never a bad thing. One Zion, Illinois shop owner did his part to spread a positive message. Despite some shops seeing fewer customers and less cash lately, he told the Lake County News Sun he’s bullish on the hobby.
