The buyer of the 2010 Bowman Stephen Strasburg 1-1 red auto rookie card can only hope it’s a short stay on the disabled list for the subject of his bid.
Pulled from an unopened pack by a Florida collector earlier this summer, the card was listed on eBay and reached nearly $1 million in obviously bogus bids. The seller then traveled to Maryland to turn the card over to Huggins & Scott, which included a special flyer featuring the card in its already-printed catalog.
Strasburg, who rocketed through the minor leagues this spring before making an impressive big league debut, was placed on the disabled list Thursday with an inflammation in his pitching shoulder. The injury was divulged the day before the auction closed.
Ten bids were placed on the card. The buyer has not yet been identified.
