A little piece of modern NFL history is heading for the auction block. Amazingly enough, Favre still hasn't missed a game since that play. It was Taylor's first and only touchdown reception in a very short NFL career and he got to keep the ball. Now, though, he's put it on the auction block. It's in the back of Heritage Auctions' current catalog with a minimum bid of $2,000. It's not Favre's first touchdown pass--that came earlier in the game with Cincinnati after Favre replaced the injured Don Majkowski. But this is the one people remember and Favre's reaction after the play is priceless--a sign of the exuberance Packer fans would enjoy for 16 seasons. Taylor didn't think a lot of it at the time. He put his name in it in magic marker and Favre signed it later but the ball also got tossed around a little and shows some wear. No doubt, the Hall of Fame would love to have the ball (so would the Packers' own very impressive Hall of Fame), but it will be interesting to see what the final bid is. It's certainly one of the most historic footballs from the modern era. |
