It was a busy weekend in the sports collecting world.
Topps got Connie Brooks out of its hair when Cool Papa Bell's daughter agreed to a settlement over some cards that were issued a few years ago.
Hunt Auctions conducted its sale at Louisville Slugger.
And Sports Collectors Daily passed another milestone. We posted our 3,000th story last Friday. It makes me tired just thinking about it. 3,000 stories in less than 2 1/2 years is a record I'm pretty confident won't be broken. I feel a little like Brett Favre. Some days it hasn't been easy to continue being the 'daily newspaper' of the hobby. Some days I wonder why I ever hatched this crazy idea but I'm proud it's worked so well.
It isn't always about the quantity. We hope you find at least a couple of the four or five stories generated every day, Monday through Friday, worthwhile. I know we all have different collecting interests. But if you haven't made use of our archives, you're missing out on a wealth of hobby news. It's an incredible storehouse of information if I do say so myself.
A non-error version of the T206 Joe Doyle card sold in a Goodwin & Company auction last week. It was a higher grade copy that went for $2826. They sell quite often, of course. It's not a difficult card. But noteworthy with one of the few ultra-rare Doyle error cards set to be sold next spring.
The T206 Honus Wagner card being offered by Phillip Weiss auctions is now on eBay. It has already garnered about 20 legitimate bids, which isn't surprising considering it started at $2,000. Here's a link to the auction.
Chris Nerat, who has been Sports Collectors Digest's go-to blogger and reporter for the last few years, is leaving the magazine. He's joining MEARS in an unspecified capacity. Chris is a good guy and we wish him well. He's also a Packer fan and gets extra points for that. |
