The Natonal Sports Collectors convention comes to Chicago in less than two weeks.
There are, of course, a ton of pay-for-scribble autograph guests scheduled to appear, but if you're looking for a less pricey, and possibly more rewarding experience, drop by and see the Negro League players who will be in attendance.
NegroLeagueLegends.com is bringing the following former Negro Leaguers to the National and they will be available to meet & greet, offer Negro League sports memorabilia for sale and shake hands with fans of ‘years-gone-by’ baseball. Some of the players who will be on hand are:
-
Hank “Baby” Presswood, Infielder (1948-1951) played under Buck O’Neil while with the Kansas City Monarchs (1950 – 1951) and for two years earlier w/ the Cleveland Buckeyes.
-
Johnny “Lefty” Washington - a Morgan Park Grad – who played under Ted “Double Duty” Radcliff with the (Chicago American Giants, 1949). In (1950) he pitched for the Houston Eagles.
-
Nathan "Sonny" Weston, - a Bloom High School Grad - who played outfield for Ted “Double Duty” Radcliff while with the Chicago American Giants in 1951.
-
Robert "Bob" Wiggins, former all-star outfielder who starred for the Raleigh Tigers of baseball’s Negro Leagues (1959- 1960).
-
Ernest "Ernie" Westfield, former pitcher for the Birmingham Black Barons. Also the starting pitcher in what was the last full fledged Negro League All-Star game held over at Comiskey Park in August of 1960.
