A giant baseball card resource returns, while we ask you not to forget those who would just like to have one box of cards to open.
Here's a link to the book on Amazon.com , which also has some pretty good deals for buying it online (less than $30). Whether you're looking for baseball card values or just want to soak up the knowledge, it's really something you'll like having around. It does come with a CD although I couldn't get mine to work.
The auction of the latest T206 Honus Wagner to be offered closed yesterday morning with a winning bid of $825,000 for the SGC 40-graded example. I think time will show the winner got a deal. That was about half the price of the PSA 5 sold by Mastro Auctions earlier this year. There wasn't much publicity about the card (other than in these pages), but the hard-core collectors who can afford to bid on these things usually know where to find them.
We haven't been touting it much, but just a reminder about the Sports Collectors Social Network. If you'd like to meet other like-minded people into baseball photos, cards, championship rings and other memorabilia, sign up, get involved and see what happens. The more people sign up, the better these social networks become. It's totally free and you can post photos, chat, send messages and get in touch with others in the hobby. Bring a friend.
Just a thought as we head for shopping centers this week. If you can afford it, buy a box of current sports cards and some plastic sheets or a box and donate them to your local Toys for Tots or similar campaign. Most of those kids will never get a chance to buy them on their own. You'll introduce them to something they'll probably treasure, and maybe create a collector in the process. And I can almost guarantee there won't be anything else like it in that big bin where they're collecting the stuff. Someone will love you for it--and they might not ever forget it. |
