Selling the Bell

A 70-something woman who lives in Beverly Hills wants to cash in by selling her one piece of sports memorabilia–the bell used in the "Long Count" fight between Jack Dempsey and Gene Tunney.

She thinks it’s worth more than it probably is, but a woman who has some long-ago connections to boxing is hoping to cash in on a piece of boxing history.

Gloria Haley wants to sell the ringside bell she says was used in Tunney’s victory over Dempsey in 1923.

Haley says she and her late husband William were approached by representatives of the Dempsey and Tunney families about 30 years ago, asking about the bell’s availability.

Gloria says her husband wanted to give it to them.

"I said, ‘You are a nut case,’ " says Haley.
