A 1912 World Series trophy is going on the auction block, along with some rare Babe Ruth and Yankees memorabilia. We’ve got the video.
As we first reported last May, a sterling silver trophy honoring 1912 World Series-winning Red Sox manager Jake Stahl will be for sale to the highest bidder on October 18.
The trophy has apparently been in the Stahl family for generations. While modern day World Series winners receive their trophy from Major League Baseball, such a custom didn’t exist in the penny-pinching days of early 20th century baseball. The gift was a measure of respect for Stahl and its sale will likely gain considerable respect from bidders. It is currently owned by a private collector.
Guernsey’s is also conducting the auction of the Baker Collection, a collection of historic documents relating to Yankee Stadium and the New York Yankees.
160 original architectural drawings used in 1921 to build the Stadium are among the items that will be sold next month in an event at Madison Square Garden.
