Pokemon Suing Beckett
Yes, there is a Pokemon Company International and they're none too pleased with Beckett Media.
Haven't been for awhile now, it seems.
The two sides have been sparring via email and phone tag for about the last four years over something that on the surface seems a little wacky.
According to court papers obtained by Sports Collectors Daily, Pokemon, based in Washington, is claiming copyright infringement because of Beckett's ongoing use of images from its products.
Beckett users can buy, sell and trade Pokemon through the company website's Marketplace section. They also publish a monthly price guide and information publication called Beckett Pokemon Unofficial Collection.
It would seem no different than Beckett publishing images of baseball and other sports cards produced by various manufacturers, but the Pokemon people are peeved enough to have lawyers cranking out reams of paperwork for a lawsuit aimed at extracting damages and getting Dallas-based Beckett to cease and desist.
The suit has been filed in U.S. District Court in Dallas and if you care, you can read it all below.
