Avoiding Hall of Fame weekend didn't seem to help the chances of Pete Rose actually getting into the place on a permanent basis, so he returned this year, again signing autographs for pay.
It's the place that apparently launched the now-infamous line of "I'm Sorry" baseballs. Pete Rose and Cooperstown haven't quite meshed the way we once thought, but he's still a drawing card at one Cooperstown sports memorabilia shop.
After avoiding the place for a few years, Rose returned to take advantage of the huge crowds showing up to honor Cal Ripken and Tony Gwynn, two of a dwindling number of Hall of Famers who actually played against him.
