Yasiel Puig is coming to the National Sports Collectors convention but you’ll have to spend a ton of money on Panini America products to meet him.
Panini announced Wednesday morning that it had signed the rookie sensation to what it calls a ‘limited autograph memorabilia deal’ for its memorabilia division, Panini Authentic. Part of the agreement includes an appearance at the 2013 National Sports Collectors Convention in Chicago in early August, but you won’t be able to plop down a few bucks and grab a signature in the autograph area. Puig will only appear at Panini’s VIP event, which requires a $7,500 purchase of the company’s products and is limited to 50 collectors.
“Yasiel’s rocket-like ascent this season has been one of the most captivating stories baseball has produced in quite some time, and we look forward to working with him,” said Panini America CEO Mark Warsop. “We’ve already incorporated some of Yasiel’s first rookie cards into products that will be releasing soon, but we wanted the relationship to be more than that by delivering his authentic autographed memorabilia and by having him help us entertain our most important fans, collectors and partners at our VIP event at the National Sports Collectors Convention.”
Puig will sign a customized Panini Authentic photo as part of the special Panini VIP event (see left).
His first Panini America rookie cards will arrive in the August release of 2013 Pinnacle Baseball. He will also have cards in the September release of 2013 Prizm Baseball. Puig’s first Panini Authentic autographed memorabilia will be available next month via the company’s website.
