Pack Break of the Week: 1994 Upper Deck SP Football

After debuting in 1993, Upper Deck returned with all-foil player photos for its 1994 SP Football set.

The set is complete at 200 cards with the first 20 of those representing what was a lackluster 1994 NFL Draft.  ’94 SP does feature Marshall Faulk’s SP Football Pack 1994rookie card along with Trent Dilfer, Aaron Glenn and Willie McGinest but it’s the Hall of Famers that stand out in this set.  Rice, Marino, Elway, Montana, Favre, Aikman, Emmitt Smith and Barry Sanders were all active at the time this set was produced.

It was considered high end at the time and while demand is somewhat soft because of the rookie crop, vintage SP sets are popular with collectors because of the quality and the fact that they’re not overproduced.

1994 SP Football also included a parallel set of die-cuts, one of which was included in each pack.  There are also Record Breaker die-cuts of Jerry Rice and Dan Marino.

There is also a 40-card SP Holoview insert set.  Collectors found one in every five packs.

Each pack contains eight cards and 30-pack boxes sell today for around $70.

The Just Collect Pack Break of the Week dips back to a superstar era for a 20-year-old high end football rip.  Take a look:
