NHL MVP Alexander Ovechkin will sign autographs exclusively for Upper Deck at the start of the 2009-10 season and also appear on hockey card packaging
Upper Deck has reached an exclusive autograph deal with NHL superstar Alexander Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals. Ovechkin, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2004 NHL Draft, was named the NHL Rookie of the Year for the 2005-06 season, and has been named league MVP the past two seasons.
Besides signing autograph cards exclusively for new Upper Deck products, Ovechkin will be featured on 2009-10 Upper Deck Hockey card packaging. The company says it will have Ovechkin content in all of its products from the start of the 2009-10 season.
“Alexander has distinguished himself as a proven superstar in the NHL in just a few short years,” said Bernd Becker, Chief Operating Officer for Upper Deck. “The sky is the limit with a player of his caliber in terms of what his legacy will be and hockey fans realize that. To be able to deliver exclusive content of this international icon is a coup for Upper Deck and something our collectors can get excited about.”
The average price for an Ovechkin autograph on eBay over the last 90 days has been $92.19.
