Game worn All Star jerseys and a unique collection of autographed items is part of a special "Hockey Fights Cancer" auction already underway.
To commemorate the 10th anniversary of Hockey Fights Cancer, the National Hockey League (NHL) and the National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA) are conducting a unique on-line auction of NHL All-Star themed memorabilia, with proceeds benefitting Hockey Fights Cancer. Autographed and game-worn items are available for bidding through NHLPA.com and NHL.com with the auction set to close April 30.
Each season, the top players in the NHL come together at the annual All-Star Game to showcase their incredible artistry and skill. The 2008 Hockey Fights Cancer NHL All-Star Memorabilia Auction features unique items from past All-Stars including:
* Game-worn jerseys worn by the NHL’s elite players during the 56th NHL All-Star Game in Atlanta
* Western and Eastern Conference NHL All-Star jerseys signed by members of the 2007 and 2008 teams
* ITECH 2004 and 2007 NHL All-Star goalie masks signed by members of the Eastern and Western Conference teams
* A unique NHL DreamSeat autographed by members of the 2008 Eastern and Western Conference teams
Among the jerseys available for bidding include sweaters worn by 2008 Art Ross Trophy and Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy winner Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals, five-time All-Star Joe Thornton of the San Jose Sharks, and four-time All-Star Jarome Iginla of the Calgary Flames. The 2007 Eastern Conference All-Star mask features autographs by Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Ovechkin, in what was their first year as All-Stars. Each autographed game-worn jersey comes with a Letter of Authenticity from the NHLPA and the NHL. It also will be security-tagged, serial numbered and registered into the NHL-MeiGray Group Game-Worn Jersey Authentication Program.
Denver Post hockey blogger Adrian Dater contributed a signed copy of an Avs-Wings rivalry book “Blood Feud”. Great players from one of the top rivalries in pro sports during its heyday signed the book, including: Peter Forsberg, Steve Yzerman, Joe Sakic, Nick Lidstrom, Alex Tanguay, Chris Drury, Brendan Shanahan, Milan Hejduk, Rob Blake, Darren McCarty, Kris Draper, Chris Osgood, Sergei Fedorov, Scotty Bowman, Marc Crawford, Bob Hartley, Larry Murphy, Mike Ramsey, Chris Simon, Martin Lapointe, Adam Foote, Dan Hinote, Ken Holland and many others.
Dater held the book for two years, collecting signatures from as many players from the rivalry as he could.
"My paths have not crossed with players such as Patrick Roy, Claude Lemieux, Mike Vernon and Mike Keane, however, so their signatures are not in it – yet. Maybe the winner can carry it forward and get them to sign it," he wrote in a post this week.
Hockey fans also have a chance to own a unique piece of hockey memorabilia from the 2008 NHL All-Star Game by bidding on a NHL hand-crafted leather recliner from DreamSeat. The one-of-a-kind item is autographed by 14 members of the 2008 Eastern and Western Conference NHL All-Star teams including first-time All Star Evgeni Malkin of the Pittsburgh Penguins and 2008 NHL All-Star MVP Eric Staal of the Carolina Hurricanes. The winner of this item will receive a Letter of Authenticity from the NHL and DreamSeat.
