Collectors Universe, Inc., parent company of PSA and PSA/DNA says it set a quarterly revenue record in the third quarter of this year. CU announced financial results on Wednesday.
They say service revenues increased by $1.8 million or 12% to a quarterly record of $16.3 million in this year’s third quarter compared to $14.5 million in the same quarter of the prior year. The increase was driven by a $1.6 million or 16% increase in coin service revenues and a $0.4 million or 11% increase in cards and autographs service revenues.
In addition, service revenues increased by $9.2 million or 26% to a nine month record of $44.0 million compared to $34.8 million in the same period of the prior year. The increase in the nine months was driven by an $8.0 million or 36% increase in coin service revenues and a $1.3 million or 14% increase in cards and autographs service revenues.
The NFL Draft will be here in a matter of hours and while it’s not clear what NFL teams really think of Johnny Manziel, it’s pretty obvious he’s the marquee name who is driving spring time football card sales.
Beckett’s price guide team has calculated the value of each of the projected top picks’ first few non-NFL licensed football cards and indicates that Manziel’s cards are worth an average of around $164 with Blake Bortles and Jadaveon Clowney a distant second and third.
Of course, Leaf, Sage, Press Pass and Upper Deck all paid Manziel to sign thousands of autographs to help boost sales of their pre-draft products but the cards have been selling.
You can see the full list of average prices for some of the anticipated first rounders here.
The buzzer-beater over Craig Ehlo is among items Upper Deck is now featuring through its eBay account. A 16×20 photo of the shot, signed in silver Sharpie by Jordan, is priced at $899.
Upper Deck is also teaming with Mitchell and Ness in preparing a 25th anniversary release of an exact replica Jordan’s ’89 Bulls jersey, signed by the Hall of Famer.
Also selling directly on eBay, Leaf Trading Cards, which is taking advantage of the hot start by Cuban sensation Jose Abreu by selling a signed ‘Welcome to Chicago’ card direct to consumer, carrying a 2013 date.
Leaf had Abreu autographs inside some of last year’s non-MLB licensed baseball card products. The Abreu card is priced at $3.99.
