Leonard Mitchell’s daughter wasn’t sure if all of those items she inherited from her father were worth anything when she walked into the Louisville Slugger Museum last fall.
They’re part sports history and part American history.
Dozens of items belonging to 1920s Negro National Leaguer Leonard Mitchell will be sold at auction this weekend, four months after Mitchell’s daughter, Delores Knox, walked into the Louisville Slugger Museum and met with appraisers from Hunt Auctions.
The appraisal fair was held in conjunction with the company’s annual auction at the museum.
Broadsides, rare photographs, programs, ticket stubs and other memorabilia will be sold.
Knox told ESPN The Magazine that while she wasn’t certain if the old pieces would be worth a lot, she was happy to find out there were plenty of people who would be interested in reliving her father’s career through his archives.
