Mr. Hockey Still Patient with Fans

Hockey Hall of Famer Gordie Howe is still trying to make fans happy even though he’s battling tragedy at home and a bad business deal.

Gordie Howe’s career was the stuff of legend. He played long enough to suit up along side his sons in the old World Hockey Association. Now, the Detroit Red Wings–and Gordie’s family– are trying to protect that legacy.

Just as he did during his playing days, Howe spends time signing autographs for a legion of fans–some of whom have never seen him play. "I try to be respectful to the game of hockey and its followers. That’s because some wise old man told me if someone is interested enough in you to ask for your autograph, you should be interested enough to sign it."

Gordie’s son Mark Howe has spent months rebuilding the family’s once-troubled business and, along with Mark’s son Travis, now handles Gordie’s appearances.

The last several years haven’t been easy for "Mr. Hockey", though.
