2008 Goudey Derek Jeter autographed card Is there a 1934 Goudey Lou Gehrig hiding in that box of 2008 cards?
Upper Deck released its 2008 Goudeyissue on Friday. The set is again done in the design of the 1930s Goudey Gum Co. issues and randomly inserted original 1934 Goudey cars can be found hidden in packs including a Lou Gehrig.

Boxes and single cards have been hitting eBay in force.

The product includesone memorabilia card, one hard-signed autograph card and seven “Mini 1934 Goudey-Sized Parallel” cards per box.

Driving this year’s Goudey Baseball release will once again be the “Sport Royalty” subset and its diversified autographed inserts. Included as part of the mix of Sports Royalty autographed cards are NBA star LeBron James, Olympic gold-medal-winning gymnast Kerri Strug, NHL superstar Sidney Crosby and MLB flame-thrower Daisuke Matsuzaka.

Several short-printed autographs appear as part of the coveted Sport Royalty lineup. Reigning NBA MVP Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, Terry Bradshaw, Gordie Howe, Magic Johnson and 11-time NBA champion Bill Russell top the list.

As part of the overall “Goudey Graphs” assortment, collectors will find randomly placed inserts with hard-signed signatures from ex-big leaguers like Bucky Dent, Steve Carlton, Bobby Thomson, Fred Lynn and Johnny Bench. In addition, collectors can find “Goudey Cut Signature” cards sporting the scrawls of deceased superstars such as NASCAR icon Dale Earnhardt and MLB Hall-of-Famers like Joe DiMaggio, Warren Spahn and Willie Stargell.

“The Goudey name is an important one in the annals of our industry,” said Jason Masherah, Upper Deck’s Senior Product Manager. “We’re trying to preserve the integrity of the Goudey legacy while we add some exciting inserts and parallels to the launch.”

In addition, special 1934 Goudey Sized Mini Parallels and “Goudey Presidents” cards will be featured. Previous Commander-in-Chiefs highlighted in the subset include George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt.

The 2008 Goudey Baseball collection carries a suggested retail price of $4.99 per eight-card pack, with 18 packs per box.
