Upper Deck has cranked out two products just before the holidays--both heavy on autographed cards.

For several weeks now, collectors of Upper Deck cards have been able to follow video logs on the progress of the company's 2007 Black Baseball product at udblack.com. During that time, the product has grown from conceptual stages to the live opening of boxes on the web. The boxes were scheduled to hit the market on Wednesday but have already been selling on eBay.

Every card is autographed with up to eight signatures on some cards. The “Black” name comes from the black filler that’s used in many of the cards, giving them a look which enables one to see through them in certain areas even though the cards themselves are autographed. Additionally, special white packs (inserted 1:3 cases on average) includes a special autographed 1/1 card. Over 8,000 of the 1/1s have been issued.

Game Day’ autographs featuring tickets, lineup cards and box scores will be part of the action as well.

“I think collectors will love all the unique cards in the set, but the ‘Pride of the Nation Rookies’ will likely be their favorite,” said Jason Masherah, UD Baseball Brand Manager. “These cards show a flag from the country where the featured player is from imbedded in them and these rookie cards are autographed and numbered to 99." Players in the set include Hunter Pence, Joba Chamberlain, Troy Tulowitzki and Daisuke Matsuzaka.

Earlier this week it was announced the product would include ten redemptions for special mystery dual cuts of deceased legendary personalities on a first-come, first-served basis.

2007 UD Black Baseball carries a suggested retail price of $125.00 per pack.

Upper Deck has also released 2007 SP Chirography Football. Packaged in a collectible tin to help prevent against cherry-picking pack searchers, collectors will find an autograph card in every three-card pack.

This has definitely been an eye-opening season for collectors when it comes to rookies not initially thought of having much collectible value now becoming the dominant forces in the hobby. Players like running back Adrian Peterson of the Vikings and QB Trent Edwards of the Bills have made very favorable impressions with fans.

Collectors also want to chronicle this special NFL season with trading cards as Brett Favre continues his incredible career in Green Bay while the New England Patriots march toward a possible undefeated season.

The 2007 SP Chirography release not only features players from this season, but also some of the NFL’s retired greats. Autographed cards from the likes of Barry Sanders, Emmitt Smith, Joe Namath, Steve Young, Joe Theismann and Joe Montana will be randomly inserted. Multi-signed cards will feature dual-, triple- and quadruple-autograph cards inserted into many of the tins, some 1 of 1.

“Our goal with SP Chirography is to deliver significant value to collectors, at a fairly reasonable price for a hobby product,” said Brandon Miller, UD Brand Manager for Football. “Autographs and rookie cards drive the market for football and collectors will get their fill with SP Chirography. With the playoffs getting ready to start, this is a great time for retailers and collectors to enjoy a top-tier product like SP Chirography. There should be interest in this product through the Super Bowl with the ‘Signature Champions’ autograph set highlighting former Super Bowl winners.”

All 2007 SP Chirography Football includes eight packs per tin with three cards per pack (one autograph card per pack). The suggested retail price per tin is $400, which translates to $50 per three-card pack.
