ImageUpper Deck has released a list of some of the autographs that will be distributed through its Sweet Spot product's Mystery Cut program.

Collectors who buy 2007 Sweet Spot Classic Baseball now know which deceased sports and celebrity autographs they'll get should they be lucky enough to pull one of the Mystery Cut exchange cards.

The product includes one autograph and two memorabilia cards in each five-card tin.

“We had been acquiring autograph cuts from a variety of deceased personalities as a surprise update to this set and then having them authenticated by James Spence Authentication,” explained Chris Shtino, Upper Deck lead buyer. “When it came time to pack the product out, we had been unable to obtain some of the bigger names we had hoped for unfortunately.”

At that time the company was faced with a difficult decision on whether to pack out lesser names into the set or try to do something unique and issue exchange cards for mystery personalities to later be determined.

“It was not that hard of a decision for us as we wanted to make sure we delivered tremendous value in this product,” shared Joe Fallon, Director of Upper Deck Product Development. “We knew collectors would want us to track down autographs from these more desirable personalities. The mystery element adds a nice twist to the product. We have acquired some great names so we believe collectors will be very excited with what they may receive.”

Some of the first names to be shared in this set are listed below:

  • Elvis Presley
  • John Lennon
  • PT Barnum
  • Johnny Carson
  • James Cagney
  • Franklin Delano Roosevelt
  • Harry Truman
  • Dwight Eisenhower
  • Duke Ellington
  • Bing Crosby
  • Bob Hope
  • Gerald Ford
  • Jack Dempsey

The Mystery Cut exchange cards will be similar Classic Cut autograph cards from the set. The designs and numbering will be different however, basically making them a different subset in the product. The cards will be sent out randomly upon completion which is scheduled for December 2007. More names will be released in the coming weeks after completing the authentication process. 2007 Sweet Spot Classic Baseball is currently live in stores with each five-card tin having a suggested retail price of $120.
