Collectors will have a new set to check out later this week when Upper Deck hockey hits the shelves. The company is banking on the success of a new crop of rookies.
Loaded with superstars and depth matched by few other classes, the 2007/2008 NHL rookie class is creating some early season excitement. Upper Deck is banking on those youngsters driving interest to its Series 1 Hockey release on Friday. Each 8 card pack carries a SRP of $2.99.

Some of the most sought after rookies to be included the set are Patrick Kane, Carey Price, Marc Staal, Sam Gagner, Jack Johnson and Nicklas Backstrom. Collectors can expect to find six of the Young Gun rookie cards per hobby box on average.

The UD Exclusive and High Gloss parallel cards will return as will the Big Playmakers jersey cards which feature four memorabilia swatches, die-cut Clear Cut Winners cards and the Signature Sensations Autograph cards. For this release, Upper Deck was able to secure all autograph content prior to launch, so the product will not include any autograph redemption cards.

“There always is a huge demand for this staple product, mostly because collectors know what to expect and appreciate the value in each box,” said Wayne Wagner of Wayne’s Sports Cards in Edmonton, AB. “The Young Guns are always some of the most sought after rookie cards of the year. People initially said this year which was supposed to be an off year for rookies, but that’s not the case as they are all performing so well. Today I had over twenty inquiries about the product alone, so there is no denying the excitement tied to this release.”
