Just hours from completion, the auction for the 2007 Topps Allen & Ginter card featuring strands of George Washington's hair was yanked by eBay for a listing violation, only to return.

Tipped off by a member, eBay pulled the auction for the first George Washington 'hair' card to come out of the 2007 Topps Allen & Ginter baseball product. Bidding had been closing in on the $10,000 mark as the auction flowed toward closure. Apparently someone complained to eBay about it not being a "baseball card". Undaunted, the owner has regrouped and listed it under 'historical memorabilia'. The auction has returned to eBay with a current high bid of over $3,000 as of Friday.
Topps was hoping to inject a little uniqueness to its Allen & Ginter set by creating something that would get collectors--and others--talking. It apparently worked, but the folks at Washington's home aren't keen on the idea.
“It’s a little shocking that Topps would put something of great value in baseball packs” Carol Borchert Cadou, the Robert H. Smith senior curator at Mt. Vernon told the New York Times. She says the card owner “might not be a responsible custodian for the piece.”
