One of Mick’s game-worn jerseys from 1960 has just sold for more money than he made that season.
Mickey Mantle’s 1960 salary with the New York Yankees was $60,000; he didn’t hit the $100,000 mark until 1963. But his home uniform jersey from 1960 has gone at auction for $101,410 (lot 432, including buyer’s premium), in a Lelands.com sports memorabilia auction.
The Mantle jersey led the field in a $3 million total catalog auction conducted by the auction house.
The uncut T206 strip featuring Honus Wagner, found originally in the Hall of Famer’s uniform pants pocket, drew nine bids but did not meet the seller’s reserve.
