One is the Heisman Trophy winner and the number one pick in the draft. The other had to wait a few hours before his name was called. Both, however, are thought to be potential NFL stars. On Wednesday, Topps announced that Cam Newton and Mark Ingram autographs will appear in its 2011 football card lineup.
The pair will sign “many” of the autographs directly on cards, according to Topps. Both players had various sticker autographs inside Upper Deck, SAGE and Press Pass products that were released ahead of the draft last month.
Topps released images of what those cards will look like. Ingram and Newton signed cards will appear in Topps Rising Rookies, Rookie Premier and Inception (which will have a Newton-Ingram dual auto).
Newton was picked first by the Carolina Panthers in last Thursday’s 2011 NFL Draft while Ingram was taken 28th by the New Orleans Saints.
“With Cam’s dynamic two-pronged attack under center and Mark’s superb vision and punishing running style, these two players performed with unrivaled excellence at their positions,” Topps stated in a news release.
“Rarely has the NFL seen two rookies so accomplished enter the League simultaneously and generate this much excitement.”
