MA Shop’s Closing Leaves Town With None

It launched during the baseball card boom of the early 1990s.  Unlike a lot of shops, though, Bassball Sports Cards in Pittsfield, MA, survived the inevitable crash.

Launched by local high school baseball coach Patrick Bassi who used his own collection as his first inventory, the shop once boasted hundreds of thousands of dollars in inventory and had a big selection of vintage and current era cards.

Operating in the black is a fine line these days, though.

With competition from the internet, a smaller collecting base and a sudden forced move, even being the only game in town wasn’t enough.  He’s closing his business, according to this story the Berkshire Eagle, which chronicles an all too familiar situation.
