It's one home run ball that didn't wind up in a sports memorabilia auction.
It's taken a year, but Chicago White Sox slugger Jim Thome will finally get the chance to go to Cooperstown, New York today.
The reason for the visit is the fulfillment of a promise he made after reaching the coveted milestone last season. Thome and his father will present the ball to the Baseball Hall of Fame in person.
Some speculated an enterprising fan would likely sell the ball or consign it to auction, but luckily for Thome, it was retrieved by a fan who was anxious to return it to him.
He told Scott Melkin he was looking forward to adding a slice of his own history to the Hall and talked about his own collection of home run balls.
