Yankee StadiumAnything that isn't nailed down is considered a prime target for souvenir hunters as Yankee Stadium prepares to host its final series in the current location.

The last time the New York Yankees were just remodeling. It was 1973 and time to spruce up the original House That Ruth built. After the finale, there was no rush for the memorabilia that remained. Some fans walked out of the park by way of the field itself. Not so this time.

There's no remodeling in 2008. The ballpark is being gutted and anything of value sold to a hungry market created by collectors and fans.

The Hartford Courant reported Tuesday that vintage baseball pictures lining walls of the basement dining room were taken down Monday after club officials noticed some were missing.

Babe Ruth reading mail at his locker ... Sparky Lyle getting ready to sit on a birthday cake ...Ralph Houk lighting up a cigar with Fred MacMurray and Phil Silvers ... Casey Stengel and Joe DiMaggio greeting General Douglas MacArthur.

The photos that didn't wind up on someone's sticky fingers will be moved to the new ballpark. Meanwhile the team has implemented extra personnel and new security measures to discourage fans and employees from walking off with the vintage Yankees memorabilia.

"It's like the White House around here," White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said as he was walking out of the building. "Security everywhere."

Newsday reports that fans caught trying to leave with anything will be shot arrested.
