It's owner has passed on and now a massive accumulation of vintage boxing memorabilia and archival material is being transferred to a permanent location.

It was a collection that would have made any auction house drool.

Hank Kaplan, widely regarded as the nation’s foremost boxing historian, died in 2007 at age 88 in Florida after amassing a lifetime worth of memorabilia associated with the sport he loved.

Now his vast archive, amassed over half a century, has found a new home. The collection of fight-used memorabilia, autographs, tickets, programs, newspapers, video and thousands of other items, is believed to be worth nearly $3 million.

But the New York Times says it didn't wind up in private hands.
