The artwork of Dick Perez has adorned hundreds of different baseball cards--but there's more to his canvas than cardboard.

You might have first come to know Dick Perez through the Donruss Diamond Kings series.

Inaugurated in 1982, the Diamond Kings were a staple for the sports card company until Major League Baseball clipped the card licenses to just two. It was Perez who made them popular, bringing a little culture to modern cards.

He was already on baseball's radar long before that, however, and 32 years after he created the National League centennial logo, Perez is still busy making past and present baseball notables come alive through his paintings.

MLB.com offers a story and photo gallery.
