Those five Stanley Cup rings from an NHL team's glory days brought over $300,00 in a recent auction. But there was one problem.

ImageThe recent sale of some Stanley Cup rings belonging to former Edmonton Oilers' owner Peter Pocklington generated some headlines, but it seems a similar set had been sold seven years earlier.

Pocklington claims the rings sold in 2001 by Lelands were a set he gave to his father. Then why do those rings include the engraved word "owner" on them while the ones consigned to the most recent sale by Classic Auctions do not?

It's kind of a mess--and a bit of a mystery, but a well-known Canadian hockey memorabilia dealer writes in his blog that the buyer of the $300K set has pulled out.
