Art Pennington had it pretty good--even at age 85. Then the waters in Cedar Rapids, IA started rising.
He's one of a disappearing band of ballplayers who spent time in the Negro Leagues. At age 85, Art Pennington didn't have a big league pension, but he did OK living in his adopted hometown of Cedar Rapids, IA.
He had enough pictures and baseball memorabilia to have his own little mini museum. Now, the pictures and most of Pennington's other possessions are ruined after the flooding that devastated parts of the city.
Cedar Rapids Gazette sports columnist Mike Hlas relates the sad tale, and says if you're looking for an autograph guest, Pennington is ready to come.
