The sale of some very personal memorabilia has Joe Cool a little hot under the collar.
 He’s a Pro Football Hall of Famer. A guy who gets 200 bucks a pop for signing autographs when he feels like doing a show. But once upon a time, he was just Joe College Kid. A Notre Dame student with a girlfriend.
He’d probably forgotten about the notes he’d sent the woman who would become his first wife. Private, personal stuff. She also had his student ID card from year one in South Bend and even the national letter of intent he signed. Kim Moses decided to consign the items to Heritage Auctions of Dallas for their recent sale.
They went for a fair amount of money, as you might expect. A lot of three love letters went for $3346. Someone paid $1912 for wedding memorabilia. The letter of intent led the way with a $6572 bid. His ID card even brought $2151.
An embarrassed Montana discovered the auction on April 29 and has now filed a lawsuit. He’s looking for over $75,000 in damages and says she took some of them without his consent. Here’s more on the whole sordid mess, including the court documents naming Heritage and the former Mrs. Montana.
