Legendary sportswriter Ray Robinson grew up around some of the game's Depression-era greats.

Long regarded as one of the best baseball writers in the business, Ray Robinson is still turning great copy.

The New York-based octogenarian turned his attention to collecting this week, with a column in the New York Times about his quest to snare autographs from the greats and not-so-greats of his childhood.

Armed with a scrapbook full of images taken from newspapers and those he created himself, Robinson had a lot of success trolling the lobbies of team hotels, something few fans ever experience in the modern era.
