Kansas Hall Ponders Sale of Sports Memorabilia

The Kansas Hall of Fame is hoping to raise enough money to build some operating capital and they've got a nice group of items ready to hit the market--as soon as they decide how to go about it.

The Hall, which ran into some financial difficulty before a large donation by one of its enshrinees last week, has some items that don't fit the Kansas theme and according to president and CEO Ted Hayes, they're going to be selling those in the near future.

Included are signed collectibles and other vintage merchandise that could be of interest to collectors and will be offered with the blessing of donors. Included are bats connected to Jimmie Foxx, an autographed Babe Ruth baseball, and other antique baseball items.

Normally in a position of receiving donated items rather than marketing them, the Hall is proceeding cautiously in an effort to maximize its return on the items. Hayes told Sports Collectors Daily he's not sure how the Hall will sell the group, but said he'd already been contacted by Mastro Auctions. Not all of the items have been reviewed by known hobby authenticators as of yet.

"This is all new to us," Hayes said. "We're not quite sure yet how we'll proceed."
