John DeLorean was involved in a lot of ventures during his life--some of them not quite so wholesome. One was part-ownership of the New York Yankees during their World Series run in the 1970s. Now, his ring from the '78 season is up for grabs on eBay.
The eBay listing comes complete with all of the details of the life of the one-time automaker. Safe to say, DeLorean was a busy man--and quite the celebrity during the 1970s and 80s.
He owned a share of the Yankees and was presented with a ring after the 1978 World Series championship. The starting bid on the ring is $25,000 with no bids having been made as of Tuesday morning. The auction closes Friday and states:
"There is no other way to describe the value of a collectible item like this 1978 World Series Ring, awarded to co-team owner John Z. DeLorean upon the Yankees come-back in 1978. Mr. DeLorean went on to become even a more notable figure of his time due to later events invloving DeLorean Motor Company (DMC), his ill-fated automobile company. This combination of the Historic New York Yankees blended with the Historic John Z. DeLorean turns this World Series Ring into an even greater artifact.
Our photographs of this ring show the ring itself, the engraved inscription on the inside "GREATEST COME BACK IN HISTORY", and the engravers initials and the 14K marking. The ring setting includes 21 diamonds around the beautiful, bright blue backing surrounding the much larger, brightly cut diamond in the center."
