Game Used Universe offered vintage and modern game used gear in their second sports memorabilia auction.

Michael Jordan game worn jerseyHe's been retired for awhile now, but Michael Jordan memorabilia still commands respect in the sports collecting world.

A jersey worn by MJ during the 1997-98 Bulls' championship season was among the featured items in an auction conducted by GameUsedUniverse.com late last week. The home white Bulls shirt, with a letter of authenticity from the franchise, sold for $11,254. With GUU's 15% buyer's premium tacked on, the realized price totalled $13,797.

Jordan's foray into baseball also produced a Jordan bat with his name on the barrel. The bat sold for $2577.

The heaviest lumber, however, came with the sale of a 1931 Lou Gehrig model Hillerich and Bradsby vault marked side-written bat. Well documented through research, the bat was returned by the Yankees to Louisville during the referenced time period and remained in storage for decades. It sold for $16,953 including the buyer's premium.

Modern baseball jerseys and game used equipment was a major part of the sale with a 2003 Albert Pujols game worn, autographed jersey, gloves and wristbands selling for $7942.

Several items pertaining to 1960s and 70s slugger Frank Howard sold through the GUU auction including a 1970 game-worn, signed jersey which brought $6563 and a game worn batting helmet nailed down by a winning bidder for $2911.

The auction also included a barometer for Roger Clemens memorabilia. A 1987 game worn home Clemens Red Sox jersey (with 1988 pants) sold for $5811, surprising some who thought even Clemens gamers might struggle in a sale.

A unique 1976 Cardinals blue Lou Brock game worn, autographed jersey sold for $5423.

Football items included a jersey from 2007 NFL Rookie of the Year Adrian Peterson. The shirt worn in a December game sold for $4716. Next year's early favorite for best rookie running back is Raiders' draftee Darren McFadden. His 2005 Arkansas Razorbacks jersey sold for $4802.
