A publication doesn't have to have Bobby Jones on the front to be worth a lot of money.

Comic books and sports used to go together sometimes. Long before the internet, video games and even Sports Illustrated, sports stars were often featured in illustrated comics sold in dime stores.

But for some collectors, chasing the really unusual doesn't always involve a well-known athlete. There's a long history of golf and comics, too, and for collectors who specialize in golf memorabilia, it's often a bidding war.

The Irish Times thought it was a big enough deal to pick up the phone and call Charlie Haviza, a big-time collector in Indiana for a feature story.
