It's been 40 years since they gave a troubled city something to cheer about, but the '68 Tigers have not been forgotten.

They were mostly young men then--in their 20s and 30s. Just as it does to everyone else, time turns ballplayers into senior citizens. The memories are still strong, though, for those who watched one of baseball's all time greatest teams.

Tiger Stadium may be vacant, but the 1968 Detroit Tigers returned to the cheers of their hometown fans this week. Forty years after they won a pennant and beat the Cardinals in a classic World Series, they were honored prior to a 2008 interleague meeting between the two clubs.

The Detroit Free-Press says if you were willing to be patient, autographs were free.
