Can't afford the pricey stuff set to come out of Yankee Stadium? Well, the players had to have come from somewhere, right?
For years, the Columbus Clippers maintained their connection to the New York Yankees.
Cooper Stadium was headquarters for the Bombers' AAA franchise in the International League and saw the likes of Don Mattingly, Andy Pettite and Mariano Rivera come through during its heyday.
But the Clips aren't associated with the Yankees anymore and The Coop has apparently outlived its purpose. Next year, the team moves to a multi-million dollar new home in downtown Columbus called Huntington Park.
The trappings of the old place might not rival the bric-a-brac nailed down in the big city, but there was enough stadium memorabilia to drive collectors and fans to the stadium over the weekend for a big garage sale where the stuff went pretty cheap, according to the Columbus Post-Dispatch.
