...no, the former Cleveland Browns wide receiver is not the one being honored.

The race to put Michael Jackson's face on posthumous trading cards is over.

The Upper Deck Company is releasing a quartet of short-printed, illustrated insert cards honoring the late entertainer's 1993 Super Bowl halftime performance.

2009 Upper Deck UDx Icons Micheal Jackson Being careful not to use the trademarked--and hotly protected--term in its news release, Upper Deck announced Wednesday that it would put the cards commemorating Jackson's show at "Football's biggest game" inside packs of 2009 UDx Baseball. The baseball card product is set to be released nationwide on August 4th.

Super Bowl XXVII wasn't much of a game. The Dallas Cowboys routed the Buffalo Bills 52-17 but Jackson's halftime show shook things up. The King of Pop took center stage and with a lip-synched set that featured some of his most memorable hits and trademark dance moves, rocking the house of 98,374 fans at the Rose Bowl. Jackson won over a new generation of fans with what many consider the most spectacular halftime show in history.

2009 UDx Michael Jackson card“Michael Jackson was a unique entertainer whose performances routinely exceeded expectations as he continually tested the boundaries with his music and dance,” said Jason Masherah, Upper Deck’s director of Sports Brands. “After witnessing the outpouring of love at his memorial, we knew the public would appreciate this commemorative collection to celebrate his larger-than-life persona. Both sport and music fans alike will no doubt reminisce about the memorable halftime performance.”

2009 UDx boxes have been pre-selling in the $35-45 range.

Jackson had his own card set during the height of his success in 1984 when Topps produced boxes of bubble gum cards centered on his life and career. Those boxes have been selling for $25-35 this week on eBay.
